throughout the past few months, I have found my practice to be shifting and changing to be reflective of issues we are all facing. This project I had initially joined to learn more about film and see if I can gain engagement with social issues I often shy away from. The main thing I have taken is this: WORKS MADE BY A NON-CIS MALE IDENTIFYING PERSON DO NOT NEED TO BE REFLECTIVE OF THEIR GENDER/SEXUALITY/SEX, THEY ARE INHERENTLY FROM THAT PERSEPCTIVE AND THEIR WORKS ARE ABLE TO BE MORE THAN THEIR BODIES. The video I made alongside this relates to my current understanding that I do not respect film as an artistic medium, with the video being from my need to understand technique. I know now I need to consider motive alongside this, and while this work is not successful as more than an aesthetic moment of exploration it has triggered me to seek a wider understanding of my use of medium.

I just saw a video of these teenage boys catching fish from their toilet and honestly? I believe them. It makes sense. Would it work in my toilet? Probably not. I don't live near enough water water so im not near enough fish for it to work. unless it's pipe fish they catching, but then how big are the pipes near them? I don't think the pipes in this row of terraced housing are capable enough for fish to live down there, never mind catfish more than a foot long. Maybe it's to do with how the flushing systems are different in the US to in the UK, don't theirs just suck down rather than spiral down? I think it would scare me if my toilet did that, way too aggressive for my liking. Would it hurt the fish to come up through the spiralled, narrow British pipes? Would they surface dizzy and confused? I assume they would anyway, as pipes are claustrophobic spaces in themselves. Did the boys really eat the fish or was it just for the video?
